KICKING
Tae Kwon Do is known for its powerful kicking. One is taught how to put their
full body weight behind each and every kick. The three kicks pictured above
are a high sidekick, sliding side kick, and a flying side kick. As you can
see in the picture, size is of little difference in generating enough power to
break through boards. The formula for power in Tae Kwon Do is TECHNIQUE + SPEED
= POWER. Through repetition and practice one learns the technique and then
works to add more speed to it which gives the resulting power. As with punching
there are many different ways in which to use the foot as a weapon. With each
different kick intended for a different target on the oponent. Control and
accuracy is finely honed so that one does not hurt their partner in practice
and training.
